Family Counseling

Are you struggling to know the best way to parent in the 21st century, where kids seem to be more plugged in and more savvy at younger and younger ages? Do you find yourself having the same old arguments with your kids, whether it's about homework, friends, doing chores, or family time? Are you looking for ways to help each person in your family reach his or her potential, while being engaged and supportive of each other?

There is no single standard for what makes a successful, healthy family. Each family is unique. Families do face common challenges, however. And most families need some way to create a workable structure combined with ways to be caring and connected with each other. Family counseling can be a way to step outside of the day-to-day challenges and work on creating the changes in your family that you desire.

My approach to family counseling is grounded in family systems theory, cognitive therapy, and reality therapy. Also important to my work with families are the parenting approaches developed by Foster Cline, M.D., and Jim Fay (authors of Parenting with Love and Logic) and by parent educator Jean Illsley Clarke, M.A. (author of Self Esteem: A Family Affair and co-author of Growing Up Again).
