Couples Counseling

People seek couples counseling for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you are disillusioned with your relationship. Maybe the spark that brought you together seems to be dimmed or missing. Or perhaps you're struggling to communicate—hitting a wall of silence or unproductive arguing. Maybe you want to work on small issues today so they don't overwhelm your relationship tomorrow. Or perhaps you've experienced significant breakage in your relationship in the form of an affair or talk of separation.

No matter where you're at in your partnership or marriage, couples counseling can be beneficial. I believe challenges in relationships offer a tremendous opportunity for growth, both individually and as a couple, with the potential to lead to deeper intimacy and fulfillment. My work with couples typically focuses on resolving conflicts, developing new communication skills, and exploring and changing self-defeating patterns of relating.

My approach to couples counseling is grounded in Imago relationship theory developed by Harville Hendrix, PhD (author of Getting the Love You Want), cognitive therapy for couples developed by Aaron Beck, M.D. (author of Love is Never Enough), and family systems theory.

To schedule an initial appointment or a free phone consultation, please contact me at 425-241-4527 or karlene@karlenejohnson.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
